Cypress Hill is indeed celebrating the season with its 18th album, The Holiday Album featuring some old favorites and surprises like the return of a fan-favorite called "Two Shot Girl." The album will be released on November 23rd, but now fans can listen to the official album trailer here:
Released in 1993, Black Sunday is their fifth album. It's usually considered a landmark in the gangsta-rap-metal genre, as the album features arguably the first gangsta-rap song -- the inescapable "Insane in The Brain." It's filled with the staples of the genre, such as all-out violence, shouty rap, and hard-ish beats. At a time when hip-hop could benefit from a palette-cleansing when it came to the subject matter, Cypress Hill took the genre to a new level, serving up sex, crime, and depravity perspectives, stylistically a continuation of gangsta-rap-metal. The album includes a number of classic rap metal fusion songs with such guests as Kool Moe Dee, Ol' Dirty Bastard, Eazy-E, and N.W.A.'s DJ Yella for its first two songs, and tremendous live version of "Demolition Crew" features the best verse by Snoop Dogg to date. If you're interested in the history of rap metal, Black Sunday is the place to start. d2c66b5586
