The NGSA is an NSF-funded distributed data system with a team of contributors from the University of Michigan, the National Radio Astronomy Observatory, the National Radio Astronomy Observatory, the University of California at Berkeley, and the State University of New York at Stony Brook. A key feature of the system is the ability to share data using the Distributed Data Management Protocol (DDMP) that allows the data to be easily and efficiently distributed over computer networks.

The Gemini Observatory has been the world leader in optical, infrared, and radio astronomy since the turn of the 21st century. This is manifested in terms of the pioneering and highly-diverse science that it has enabled, particularly over the past decade. Most of the Gemini data is archived in an open-access manner. However, to enable new users and to implement the requirements of The Data Interchange Framework (DIF), the Gemini Archive offers a specialized data distribution system called the Gemini Data Distribution Service. The Gemini Data Distribution Service allows reliable access to the Gemini Observatory Archive data that is not part of the open-access Gemini archive. This includes proprietary data collected by Gemini Observatory itself, as well as data collected by other observatories. Gemini Observatory has been a major player in the data archiving, distribution and re-use community since the 1960s. The Gemini Data Distribution Service is a key component in that quest.
Access to the Astronomy and Astrophysics Data System (ADS) is free to all persons without restrictions. It is a dynamic, searchable database of all cited references for astronomy, planetary science, physics, and instrumentation.
The ADS is an automated, dynamic searchable database of all cited references for astronomical and planetary science from 1975 to present. Each reference is indexed with a highly specific set of keywords, including Astronomical Journal and Astrophysical Journal. The indexing is done by hand for each paper by editorial staff. The ADS also provides cross references, and the latest issues for the journals are available on the Web at monthly intervals.
